Is this LARP for me?
Trials of Torment will be a Nordic fantasy larp. The goal of the larp is to provide intense emotional play for all characters in a setting with enforced traditions. This larp has only players, which means we ask for collaborative larping and a play-to-lose/play-to-lift mentality. Creating beautiful or intense scenes together is way more important than achieving your in-game goals.
Rebellion is not a part of our larp. All characters have to accept the setting as it is, because you don’t have the power to change it. So you can’t change the culture or discard the goddess. We will play with a system where the goddess Noirith knows you don’t agree with her. We don’t have SL’s to tell you what to do, but you will have to impose consequences on your own character, which will immediately have the effect of preventing your character from rebelling further.
We will have some meta-techniques to create safe intense play. We won’t play with a rule system for aspects like magic, fighting, etc. We ask players to minimize the use of fantasy powers, so we can play mostly with the concept ‘what you see is what you get’. This will improve the immersion of the scenes.
To achieve an interesting character for everyone, we will provide all Noiris-players with a detailed pre-written character. Every character will have pre-defined relationships to other characters. That is the reason we will ask you to fill out a casting questionnaire where you can let us know what sort of play you enjoy and what themes you want to play with, and what you would rather avoid. We'll then seek to provide you with a character you are happy with based on your casting preferences. This way, you'll have a good foundation to build play on from the start of the game.
For the Varr Annor players it will be a little different. They play an existing character which they have already played at other events. We ask these players to fill out the casting questionnaire too. This information we use to provide the Varr Annor players with extra information, background or relations for this event. So they also have a good foundation for an interesting event.
